10 Minute Tomato Sauce
This is my new go-to sauce. Super easy, super quick and a great base you can use to make spaghetti sauce with all the fixin's you like to add. OR, just have as is!
It is really just passatta sauce, but I would never claim it is authentic Italian. But it is simple and it is good.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil, plus a splash to finish up the sauce
1 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes
5 whole cloves of garlic, peeled
1 handful of basil leaves
1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon of salt
Directions:
Add 1/4 cup of olive oil to a non stick pan over medium high heat. (you can add less oil if you want, but this amount worked for me.
When oil is shimmering, add garlic cloves. Cook for about five minutes so that oil picks up garlic flavor. You can remove garlic at this point, but I like to leave it so it adds some flavor to the sauce
Add crushed tomatoes. Stir and let the tomatoes come up to temperature
Add basil and red pepper flakes. Stir and let the sauce begin to bubble.
Add salt. You can add more or less depending on your taste.
Add a splash of olive oil, stir and remove from heat.
That's it! Add to pasta, or use with a sausage grinder or use as a base for your spaghetti sauce!
